The distances are real and the surfaces are usually firm, so most vehicles cope, and the value is in the couple's photograph run across the estate. The thing to check is where the wheels actually go.   Barn weddings tend to cluster the buildings but sit them in working farmland, so the distances are shorter but the ground is rougher. A gateway between two fields, a yard that turns to mud, a track with a camber, these are the details that decide the vehicle. The barn itself is usually the easy part; the parking field is where people get stuck. We will ask about the surface between the car park and the barn specifically, because that leg is the one couples underestimate and the one guests remember.

  Marquees and grass field sites

  A marquee wedding is the hardest of the venue types and the one where honesty matters most. There is often no made-up surface at all, the ground can change character with a day of rain, and charging has to be planned into the generator supply rather than assumed. A firm dry field takes a buggy well; a saturated one is a different question, and we would rather tell you that at quote stage than recover a stuck vehicle during your drinks reception. If yours is a marquee wedding, the earlier we talk the better, because the answer sometimes affects your ground protection and power planning as well as the buggy.

  Castles, cobbles and steep sites

  Historic castle venues bring cobbles, steep approaches and narrow archways. Cobbles are jarring but manageable at low speed; a genuinely steep approach narrows which vehicle we send, because a loaded buggy climbing a slope draws hard and a tired battery set will struggle. Archway widths and gate restrictions matter for the delivery vehicle as much as the buggy, so measure the tightest point if you can. Vineyard and hillside weddings share the slope problem. Rows are narrow, the ground is worked, and the gradient is the deciding factor, so describe the steepest part of the route rather than the average.

  Hotels, golf clubs and garden venues

  Hotel and golf club weddings usually have the firmest surfaces and the clearest storage and charging, which makes them straightforward. The job is often moving guests from a distant car park or between an outdoor ceremony and an indoor reception. Garden weddings at a private house vary enormously, from a manicured lawn to a paddock, so they are worth a proper description rather than an assumption. Whichever yours is, the pattern holds: tell us the venue and the route, be honest about the worst of the ground, and we will match the specific vehicle to it.

Common questions

Does the venue affect which buggy you send?

Yes, more than anything else does. Firm drives take any vehicle; grass, slopes, cobbles and narrow access each narrow the choice. Tell us the venue and the route and we match the specific buggy to it rather than sending a default that might not suit.

Our venue is a marquee on a field, is that a problem?

Not necessarily, but it needs the most planning. Ground conditions decide it and can change in the final week, and charging has to be planned into your power supply. Talk to us early and be honest about the surface, and we will tell you plainly what will cope.

The venue is a listed building with protected lawns, can you still deliver?

Usually, but the route may need to respect areas a vehicle cannot cross. Tell us about any protected or scheduled ground and we will plan around it. It is a common situation at historic venues and rarely a blocker if we know in advance.

How do we check the buggy will fit through the venue's gates?

Measure the narrowest point on the route, including archways and gateways, for both the buggy and the delivery vehicle. Send us the figures if you have them. Access width is a routine check and the one that occasionally decides how we deliver.
