Golf buggy hire glossary
Plain-English definitions of the terms you will meet when hiring a buggy, from load bed to minimum hire. Every one is a term we genuinely use on your quote.
- Utility buggy
- A buggy built around a load bed rather than passenger seats, for carrying tools, kit, plants or materials. It usually seats a driver and one passenger, with the rest of the space given over to the bed.
- Load bed
- The flat cargo area at the back of a utility buggy, used to carry equipment and materials. It is what distinguishes a utility buggy from a passenger one.
- People mover
- A larger passenger buggy, in our fleet the 8 seater, built to move guests in numbers on a set route. It carries a driver and seven passengers.
- Wheelchair-access buggy
- A buggy with a ramp and securing points so a guest can travel in their own wheelchair rather than transferring to a seat. It carries the wheelchair user and a companion.
- Managed shuttle
- A service where we run a buggy on a set route with a trained driver, rather than leaving the vehicle for you to operate. Suited to moving guests continuously at a large event.
- Nominated driver
- A named, briefed person responsible for driving the buggy, whether one of our trained drivers or a member of your team. Many venues prefer a nominated driver to guests taking the wheel, particularly where drink is involved.
- Delivery and collection
- We deliver the buggy to your venue, set it up, and collect it at the end of the hire. Both are priced together as one line on your quote, based on road distance from the depot the buggy comes from.
- Road distance
- The distance a vehicle actually travels by road from our depot to your venue, there and back. Delivery is priced on this rather than the straight-line distance, because the road distance is what it genuinely costs to serve you.
- Minimum hire
- The shortest period a particular buggy can be hired for. Some partner-supplied vehicles carry a minimum, for example one week, which is charged even for a one-day event. We tell you where a minimum applies before you book.
- Deposit
- A part-payment taken to confirm a booking, with the balance due before the hire. The deposit amount is set per booking and shown clearly on your quote and invoice.
- Out-of-hours delivery
- Delivery or collection outside the standard window of 08:00 to 18:00. It is available and priced as a separate, clearly shown option on your quote.
- Handover
- The point at delivery when the buggy is checked over with you, its condition and charge recorded, and its operation explained. The same happens at collection, so both sides have a clear record.
- Peak season
- The busiest periods, chiefly summer weekends and the wedding and event season, when demand for buggies is highest. Popular dates are booked well in advance, so an early enquiry protects your choice.
- Itemised quote
- A quote that shows each part of the price on its own line, the hire, delivery and collection, any extras and VAT, rather than a single figure. We issue one within one working hour of an enquiry.
- Extras
- Priced additions to a hire, such as a trained driver, a managed shuttle, custom branding, a canopy, extra charging, timed delivery or a damage waiver. Each is optional and shown separately on your quote.
- Damage waiver
- An optional add-on that limits your liability for accidental damage to the buggy during the hire. Whether to take it is your choice, and its cost is shown as its own line if you do.
