A canopy is the foundation, and on most machines it is either fitted from new or it is a structural job rather than a bolt-on. Everything else in this category hangs from it: a windscreen at the front, a rain curtain or a full enclosure around the sides, a rear screen behind the seat. It takes the wind off the occupants, which is what actually makes a winter journey unpleasant, and a folding or tilting screen lets you clear it in warm weather. Rigid screens stay clear longer but scratch if wiped dry, and soft screens distort. Do not overlook a cover for the machine when it is parked.
