Cold, as distinct from wind and wet, is the thing an unheated enclosure handles least well: it keeps the draught out and leaves the temperature much where it was.
Visibility, and looking after clear panels
Flexible clear sheet is never as good as glass and it gets worse with age. It scratches easily, it hazes with ultraviolet light, it yellows, and it eventually crazes into a fine web that catches low sun and blinds the driver at exactly the wrong time of year. Assume the panels are a consumable and that they will be replaced before the rest of the enclosure wears out.
How they are cleaned decides how long that takes. Wiping a dusty panel with a dry cloth drags grit across the surface and puts in the scratches that later become the haze. Distortion matters as much as clarity. Condensation, misting and ventilation
This is the failure mode nobody warns you about. Two people in wet coats inside a sealed cab put a surprising amount of moisture into a small volume of air, and the panels are cold. Standing water is the related problem. An enclosed buggy left out collects condensation inside, and that water sits on seats, in footwells and around electrical connections rather than draining and drying as it would on an open machine. If the buggy lives outside, it wants a proper cover over the enclosure, not the enclosure acting as the cover. Damp seats in the morning are the sign to look for, and they usually mean the machine is being stored wrong rather than leaking.
Getting in and out
The cost of an enclosure is paid at every stop, and it is easy to underestimate how often that is. Passengers who are older or less steady find a door and a high sill harder than an open side.

A crosswind pushes an enclosed machine noticeably more than an open one, the steering feels lighter, and range drops because the motor is working against a larger frontal area. None of that is dangerous at buggy speeds on flat ground. On a ridge, a bank or an exposed coastal site it deserves respect.
Fit, fixings and the canopy underneath
Enclosures are cut for a particular body and a particular canopy. A universal one that nearly fits is a poor buy: it flaps, and flapping wears through the panel at every fixing, lets water in along the seams and drives the occupants mad on a long run. Buy for the model, and where the machine has been modified, mention it, because a lift kit or a rear seat changes the shape the enclosure has to sit on.
The fixings deserve a look before the first storm. The canopy struts, their mounting points and the roof itself were designed to hold up a roof, not to resist a wind load applied across a full set of panels. On an older machine, check the strut mounts for cracking and elongated holes, and take a view about whether the canopy is up to the job before adding to it.
Doors add their own list. Hinges and latches want checking and adjusting as the machine flexes over rough ground, and a door that has dropped will not seal at the top no matter how hard it is pulled. In cold weather, bring the panels somewhere warm before handling them at all, because cold sheet is stiff and takes a permanent set from being bent. Fitting in the same order every time is worth the discipline. Most enclosures locate on the canopy first, then tension down the sides, and doing it in the wrong sequence leaves the whole thing sitting crooked with the panels rippled.
