Start with the batteries
A buggy that is completely dead, with no lights and no response, is usually telling you the batteries are flat or disconnected rather than that something dramatic has failed. If it has been standing for weeks, this is almost certainly it.

Listen to the solenoid
This is the most useful single test for a no-start. Sit on the buggy, select a direction, and press the pedal from a standstill while listening near the battery compartment. A healthy buggy makes a clear click as the solenoid closes.
No click at all suggests the signal is not reaching the solenoid, which points back at the switches, the pedal sensor, or the solenoid itself. A firm click with no movement means the power is being connected but something beyond it, the controller or the motor, is not responding.
