A four seater buggy carries two rows of two and is the most commonly requested size because it matches a family, a foursome or a small working group. It is longer and turns wider than a two seater, and where the rear bench faces backwards it is for carrying people short distances rather than for a comfortable ride. Where a load matters more than the second row, a cargo or utility version of the same machine is usually the better answer.

Why four is the default request
Four matches the units people come in: a family, a golfing foursome, a couple of staff with a couple of guests. It is the size that needs no explanation, which is why it is asked for more than any other.
That does not make it right for every job. It is right when four people genuinely travel together regularly, and over-specified when they occasionally do.
