Painshill at Cobham is a restored eighteenth-century landscape garden built around a long circuit walk past a serpentine lake and a sequence of follies. Because the garden is experienced as a continuous loop through woodland and parkland, guests at an event cover a long walking route, which is where a buggy helps.

About Painshill

Painshill covers around 158 acres of restored eighteenth-century landscape garden, laid out as a circuit walk past a fourteen-acre serpentine lake and a series of follies including the Gothic Temple, the Ruined Abbey and the Crystal Grotto. Because the whole garden is a single circuit rather than a compact space, seeing or using it involves a long walking loop.

For a wedding or a private function in the grounds, carrying guests around the circuit rather than leaving them to walk the full loop is the practical reason a buggy is arranged, particularly for older guests or anyone in formal dress.

Access and getting around

The circuit combines gravel and grass paths through woodland and open parkland, with undulating ground and some inclines around the lake, all comfortable for an electric buggy on the made routes.

Painshill is run by a charitable trust, which sets its own rules on vehicle access across the garden, so routes for an event are agreed with them.
