Golf buggy hire around Priddy

Priddy is the highest village on the Mendips, sitting on open limestone plateau at around 250 metres with the green at its centre where hurdles were traditionally stacked for the sheep fair, held here since the fourteenth century. The plateau carries Bronze Age barrow cemeteries, the Priddy Circles, and the swallets and shafts that lead into some of the most important caving systems in the country.

The green and the plateau give unusually open working ground. A fair or a show puts pens, stalls and parking across the green and adjoining fields, with everything carried between them. Caving and cave rescue activity moves equipment to shaft heads well away from any road. Farm and conservation work on limestone grassland covers a lot of ground with few gates.

The plateau is level, which suits a buggy, and the going is firm limestone turf in dry weather. It is also exposed, wet in winter and pocked with swallets and shafts that are genuine hazards rather than features to be careful around. Scheduled barrows are off limits. Priddy is a run west from our depot along the M4.

Delivery to Priddy

We deliver to Priddy from our Bracknell depot, about 110 miles by road. Delivery is priced on that distance and shown as its own line on your quote, separate from the hire, so you can see exactly what each part costs.

We bring the buggies on a trailer, set them up at the venue, show your team how they work, and collect them at the end of the hire. Nobody needs to tow anything or collect anything themselves.

Which buggies suit Priddy venues

  • 4 seater

A 4 seater golf buggy carries a driver and three passengers, usually in two rows. It is a popular choice for weddings, small group transport and general venue use.

  • 6 seater

A 6 seater golf buggy carries a driver and five passengers. It is the usual choice once you are moving groups rather than individuals, and it is the smallest size that works properly as a shuttle.

  • 8 seater

An 8 seater golf buggy, sometimes called a people mover, carries a driver and seven passengers. It is the largest option we hire and is built for moving guests in numbers on a set route, rather than for general runabout use.

What buggies get used for around Priddy

  • Village greens and sheep fairs with pens and stalls across open ground.
  • Caving and rescue teams moving equipment to shaft heads away from roads.
  • Limestone grassland farming and conservation with few access gates.
  • Upland events on level plateau ground where parking is a field away.

Questions about hire in Priddy

Is open limestone plateau good ground for a buggy
In dry weather it is: level, firm turf with few obstacles. It is also exposed and wet through winter, and it is pocked with swallets and old shafts that are real hazards, so route planning here is about knowing the ground rather than the gradient.
Can a buggy support a caving or rescue operation
For getting equipment and people to a shaft head across open ground, yes, which saves a great deal of carrying. Everything below ground is obviously a different matter entirely and outside anything we supply.
How far is Priddy from your depot
A run west from our Bracknell depot along the M4 corridor and up onto the Mendips, with the measured road distance shown as its own line.
Do you cover Wells, Cheddar and Wookey Hole as well
Yes. They sit below the Mendips within a short drive and are covered in the same delivery run.
