Golf buggy hire around Lode

Lode sits on the fen edge north east of Cambridge, beside Anglesey Abbey: an Augustinian priory turned country house, whose gardens were laid out from the 1920s by Lord Fairhaven across around 114 acres. They include a celebrated winter garden, long avenues, formal enclosures, a wildflower meadow and Lode Mill, a working watermill on the lode at the far end of the grounds.

A garden designed as a series of long avenues is designed to be walked, which is the point and the problem. The winter garden draws heavy visiting in the coldest months when the walk is hardest, the mill is a considerable distance from the house, and the whole layout rewards covering ground. The garden team works the same acreage year round with plants, mulch and machinery.

The gravel walks and made paths are wide and firm, which is good going and reflects a garden built to carry visitors. The meadow and the lode bank are soft, and the fen edge is low ground that holds water through winter. Trust land means Trust rules on vehicle access. Lode is a run north east from our depot.

Delivery to Lode

We deliver to Lode from our Bracknell depot, about 110 miles by road. Delivery is priced on that distance and shown as its own line on your quote, separate from the hire, so you can see exactly what each part costs.

We bring the buggies on a trailer, set them up at the venue, show your team how they work, and collect them at the end of the hire. Nobody needs to tow anything or collect anything themselves.

Which buggies suit Lode venues

  • 4 seater

A 4 seater golf buggy carries a driver and three passengers, usually in two rows. It is a popular choice for weddings, small group transport and general venue use.

  • 6 seater

A 6 seater golf buggy carries a driver and five passengers. It is the usual choice once you are moving groups rather than individuals, and it is the smallest size that works properly as a shuttle.

  • 8 seater

An 8 seater golf buggy, sometimes called a people mover, carries a driver and seven passengers. It is the largest option we hire and is built for moving guests in numbers on a set route, rather than for general runabout use.

Questions about hire in Lode

Why are winter openings harder than summer ones
Cold, short days and wet ground, and an audience that is often older. A winter garden is a genuine draw but the walk to it is at its least pleasant, so the accessibility case is strongest exactly when conditions are worst.
Can a buggy be used on gravel garden walks
Yes, and wide gravel walks are among the better surfaces for it: firm, well drained and built to carry visitor numbers. Soft meadow and bank edges are the limits, and we would plan routes to the made ground.
How far is Lode from your depot
A run north east from our Bracknell depot towards Cambridge, and the measured road distance is carried as its own line on the quote.
Do you cover Bottisham, Burwell and Waterbeach as well
Yes. They sit on the fen edge within a short drive and are covered in the same delivery run.
